Amazon has had Apple products on its platform in the past, but those devices were available from third-party sellers, and not Apple (or its authorized resellers) directly.
As a result, prices could range quite a bit, and oftentimes weren’t anywhere near what the official price might be. But that’s changing, as reported on Friday by CNET . Amazon and Apple have struck a deal that will see Apple sell its goods, including new iPhones, new iPads, and new Apple Watches, on Amazon directly.
Availability will be generally limited right out of the gate. Apple’s products will be available on Amazon in the France, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. That will also include Beats-branded devices as well. If you were hoping to find Apple’s smart speaker, the HomePod, on Amazon, well, you’ll be disappointed — but perhaps not surprised?
A statement from Amazon:
“Amazon is constantly working to enhance the customer experience, and one of the ways we do this is by increasing selection of the products we know customers want,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement Friday morning. “We look forward to expanding our assortment of Apple and Beats products globally.”
Here’s a big change as part of the deal: Third-party sellers offering Apple products are going to have to stop doing that, and their listings will be removed from the Amazon storefront on January 4 of next year. From this point on only Apple and its authorized resellers will be able to sell Apple products.
So, big news for a Friday! Who’s been waiting to buy Apple products directly from the company via Amazon?
